2015 Lake Trust Foundation Scholarship Winners

Words by Abbie Dyer on Jun 1, 2015 9:30:00 AM

With summer on the horizon, most of us are planning our vacations and getting pumped up for the adventures that lie ahead. But for Michigan high school seniors, planning life post-high school is at the top of their minds. To help ease the stress of the many decisions that these young minds have to make, we're offering a bit of financial assistance.

For the past four years, we've awarded ten $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors to put toward their attendance at a Michigan college or university. As part of our initiative to increase financial education across the state, we're helping area students on their journey to reach their career goals.

Drumroll Please...

Why Do We Offer a Scholarship?

Through our scholarship program, the Lake Trust Foundation is supporting education efforts across the state. We're on a mission to help Michiganders make smart choices with their money. And these choices should start at a young age.

"We want to put young people on a path that helps them reach their full potential and education plays a role in that journey," says Keith, Director of Corporate Responsibility and Lake Trust Foundation Scholarship Committee team member. "That's one of the reasons the Foundation has been awarding scholarships since it was established in 2012."

The Application Process

To be considered for a scholarship, students have until the end of February to submit an application. Along with their submission, students also send in a high school transcript, recommendation letter and a college acceptance letter. They'll also need to have a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher and explain all of the awesome things they've done over the past four years (volunteering, extra-curricular activities, etc.).

After the submission period ends, we have a committee of employees that review the applications. Then we pick out ten students who met all of the requirements and who we felt best reflected our Core Values. Once the winners are selected, they'll come to the closest branch and receive a giant check for $1,000.

Congratulations again to our scholarship winners. Good luck on your college journey!
