It’s a new year and it’s time for a fresh start. If you’ve been thinking about going to school (or even going back to school), this might be a perfect time. Since 2013, the Lake Trust Foundation has offered scholarships to help students and entrepreneurs in Michigan achieve their dreams. And we’re continuing this tradition in 2020 by offering eleven scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who plan to attend college or trade school this year.
For the second year in a row, our New Beginnings Scholarship is available for individuals who are interested in pursuing a skilled trade or technical career. Each of our six New Beginnings Scholarships is worth up to $5,000 each and the funds can be used for tuition, tools for your trade, professional fees, or dues.
To support our commitment to encouraging economic growth in our state, we created a scholarship dedicated to individuals who are interested in joining the Michigan workforce after graduation. Through our Michigan Impact Scholarship, we’ll offer five full-tuition scholarships that can be used for any on-campus or online program at Cleary University, for both graduates and undergraduates.
Still not sure if our scholarships are right for you? Well, we have five great reasons why you should apply for a Lake Trust Foundation Scholarship.
2020 scholarship applications are now closed. Check back in April when we announce the winners of each scholarship!
You Want To Go To School In Michigan
All of our scholarships will be awarded to Michigan residents who are committed to studying in the state. Our New Beginnings Scholarship can help with the cost of starting a technical or trade skilled career. For our Michigan Impact Scholarship, we’re going to cover the cost of tuition for five students to attend Cleary University. You can attend any Cleary University campus (Howell, Ann Arbor, or Detroit) or take classes online. If you’re not familiar with their course offerings, check out a full list of programs1 offered at Cleary University.
You’re Interested In A Trade Or Technical Career
Our New Beginnings Scholarship can be used for the costs of any skilled trade or technical program in Michigan. If you’d prefer to go to a college or university and you still want to major in a technical field, you should still apply for this scholarship.
There’s a great need for professionals who are versed in skilled trades and we want to help revitalize these careers. However, we know that the high cost of tools, supplies, uniforms, and professional fees are a barrier for many people who want to get started in these fields. Good thing there’s a scholarship to help you out!
You’re Excited To Help Your Community
We’re passionate about investing in Michigan neighborhoods and supporting local businesses. And we’re looking for individuals who share this passion for giving back and contributing to the economic growth of communities in our state. Together we can use our talents to create strong, vibrant neighborhoods.
For our Michigan Impact Scholarship applicants, we’re asking for a video and essay to go along with your submission that describes why you want to join the Michigan labor force and how you plan to give back to communities in our state after graduation. For example, if you’re majoring in culinary arts, tell us about your love of food and how you’ll use your talents to contribute to health and well-being efforts or economic development in a local area.
You Can Get Free Money, Duh
With the average cost of undergraduate education at an estimated $17,237 per year2, every penny of savings helps. While you can start saving before you enroll, trying to figure out how to save money in college and avoid taking on too much debt is hard to do.
Our New Beginnings Scholarship gives you the flexibility to use the funds for different costs associated with your education, not just room and board. This scholarship provides funds that can be used for tools, professional fees or dues, or uniforms that need to be purchased for your program. And our Michigan Impact Scholarship covers the cost of tuition at Cleary University. That’s a lot of savings that you could put toward something else.
You Have Eleven Chances to Win
You never know what could happen until you try, right? We’re giving six New Beginnings Scholarships to individuals interested in trade or technical careers. Five additional opportunities exist for the recipients of the Michigan Impact Scholarship. So, take a chance on yourself and apply!
The deadline to apply for both of our scholarships is Saturday, February 29, 2020. We’ll notify our winners in April 2020 and host an award celebration soon after. We can’t wait to hear your stories and learn more about your plans for the future!
