Everyone should have the opportunity to act out their passions and do good in the world by sharing those passions. That's why we take the idea of community very seriously here. So when we heard that a local high school marching band was honored with a once-in-a-lifetime chance, we felt compelled to help make this rare opportunity a reality.
A Special Honor
On January 2, the Brighton High School Marching Band will ring in the new year in a very special way. They've been selected to perform at the Outback Bowl during the halftime show. Only a few high schools in the country receive this honor to perform in front of 65,000 spectators.
However, the cost of sending over 200 students and chaperones to Tampa, Florida comes with a hefty price tag. Over the past few months, the local community has come together to aid this effort.
Making a Difference
When a few Lake Trust employees brought the trip to our attention, we jumped at the chance to help out. We're proud to be a major sponsor of this special chance for local youth to live out their dreams.
"This is great recognition for all of the student's hard work," said Christine, our Vice President of Community Development. "And this is a unique opportunity to support them, our members, and the community around us."
Though this event is outside the realm of our normal sponsorship activities, we recognized that this was a chance to make a difference in the lives of many local students. Many of these children will never have the opportunity to perform at a national level again.
In addition to playing during the halftime show, the marching band will perform in the Outback Bowl Parade and the pre-game show. They'll also have the chance to work with expert clinicians and directors to perfect their craft.
Wishing Them Well
We wish the Brighton High School Marching Band the best of luck during their performance. We're so proud of all of your hard work and we can't wait to cheer you on during the big game.
