Amidst the picturesque landscape of the Oak Pointe Country Club come the sounds of metal hitting plastic and the laughter of teammates jabbing each other on their game. Though these aren't uncommon sounds from a golf course, the golfers here today aren't just playing around. Among the shiny clubs and wooden pegs lies a shared passion and purpose: To bring financial education opportunities to adults across Michigan.
The Lake Trust Foundation was formed three years ago with this mission in mind. Today the organization encompasses an annual scholarship for high school seniors, education classes for adults and a strong tie to several Michigan communities. To ensure that the Foundation is sustainable and can continue to offer these unique programs, the idea of an annual golf outing came to fruition. This outdoor event is a great way for supporters to network and meet other people who have the same passion of making a difference.
On June 29, 2015, 141 golfers joined us at our third annual golf outing to share in our passion for financial education. But the day wasn't all fun and games. Here are just a few reasons why these dedicated people decided to join us on that warm, summer day.
A Shared Passion
"[The Outing] brings together much of the Lake Trust ecosystem that supports our business." -David Snodgrass, President/CEO Lake Trust Credit Union
A Network of Supporters
"We encourage credit union efforts that support the overall credit union movement. Lake Trust's educational endeavors are consistent with these efforts, which are also promoted by the Michigan Credit Union League." -Kirk H., Michigan Credit Union League
Creating Lasting Partnerships
"We donate to this event every year because we support the Foundation efforts to bring educational opportunities to Michigan." -Rose R., Creative Benefit Solutions, LLC
Helping Michigan Communities
"We're providing furniture for the new headquarters. When we got Lake Trust as a client, we were very surprised and happy to see all of their community efforts." -Nina M., Interior Environments
Making Higher Education Possible
"Lake Trust works with us to provide student loans and they're also in our CUSO group. By coming to this outing, we're helping to sponsor peoples' goals for higher education." -Jillian G., Credit Union Student Choice
There are big plans for the future of the Foundation as it branches out and continues to grow. Community expansion is on the list, meaning you'll see more of us lending a hand where you need it most. We'll continue to offer on-site classes and there are plans in the works for new online tools and courses.
"We want people to be better because we exist," explains David Snodgrass, President/CEO of Lake Trust Credit Union.
Sometimes you need a little help in life and that's okay. It's important that we're able to provide tools and resources to help you lead the life you want to lead and accomplish the goals that matter to you.
We'd like to give a big thank you to all of our supporters, the most important one being you.
