Hope for a Home: A Day With Humble Design

May 24, 2017

Home. It's a place many of us take for granted and a spot whose meaning we don't always understand until our situation changes. It's hard to say exactly what defines a home besides four walls and a roof because of the complicated emotions we attached to this singular place. A big part of any home, however, is represented by love, comfort, fond memories, and security. And it's these feelings that the folks at Humble Design hope to restore as they furnish and recreate homes for families in need.

Spreading Joy Through a Day of Caring

August 19, 2016

On an early summer morning, we showed up for another day of work. But today we traded in our usual work tools for rakes, shovels, and gardening gloves. The day was spent planting flowers, trimming trees and power washing the home of an elderly resident in our community. At a second site, we partnered with Service Masters to clean the interior of another elderly resident's home. Our work sometimes leads us to unexpected places, but there shouldn't be a limit on the ways that we can help someone in need.

Old friends shared stories from the last year of their lives and some new faces joined in on the conversations. Teams ribbed each other about their game as the day went on, but the competition stayed friendly. Because it didn't really matter who won or lost this game. The golfers had a bigger purpose that day: To show that they believed in the mission of the Lake Trust Foundation.

Each time George went to cheer on his daughters at their soccer games, he always left feeling uncomfortable and frustrated.
